Solid Snake is the man you play as in MGS. He used to work for FOX-HOUND but retired in 1999. Now he is being called out of retirement by old friend Colonel Roy Campbell to infiltrate Shadow Moses Island and make sure the terrorist threat never becomes a reality. [MORE INFO]

Snake's first point of contact on the Codec is Colonel Roy Campbell (140.85). He's the man who can point you in the right direction and give you relevant information for your mission. Campbell was the one to give you this mission and implores you to find his captured niece Meryl.

Dr. Naomi Hunter can be contacted on the Codec (140.85). She is an expert in the field of genetics and can give you general scientific information as well as information about what exactly the terrorists want from Big Boss' DNA. Her past is something of a mystery.

As the designer of your Codec and Radar, Mei Ling is an expert in electronics and communication. She also saves your game data for you on frequency 140.96. She cares for Solid Snake's safety and is full of ancient Chinese proverbs which she is happy to share with you.

Nastasha Romanenko provides information by Codec (141.52) but never actually needs to be called. She is an expert in weapons, particularly nuclear weapons and can therefore provide you with relevant information about the terrorists and their threat.

Master Miller is Solid Snake's old survival instructor. He lives in the Alaskan wilderness like Snake and knows a lot about its flora and fauna. He can provide you with a lot of helpful tactical hints which will enable you to complete your mission in one piece. Contact him on 141.80.

Meryl, Campbell's niece and FOX-HOUND member, was captured by the terrorists for not taking part in their revolt and thrown in a cell. When Snake reaches the island, he tracks Meryl down and uses her expert knowledge of the base to his advantage. Meryl's frequency is 140.15.

The DARPA Chief Donald Anderson is one of the two hostages Snake has to rescue from Shadow Moses Island, and preferably before the terrorists get the information out of him they need to launch a nuclear warhead from Metal Gear!

Armstech President Kenneth Baker was captured along with the DARPA Chief. Together they have the information the terrorists need to launch a warhead from Metal Gear so Snake must rescue Baker before the terrorists can obtain his detonation code.

Dr. Hal Emmerich, more affectionately known as Otacon given his passion for Japanese anime, is the designer of Metal Gear REX. He's being held on the island by the terrorists and Snake must find him in order to learn how to destroy Metal Gear. His knowledge is useful. Codec frequency 141.12.

Jim Houseman is the Secretary of Defence and in overall control of your mission. Colonel Campbell takes his orders from him before passing them on to Snake. You have very little contact with Houseman in the game. He appears briefly on your Codec to give you some bad news, but that's all.

Liquid Snake is the mastermind behind the terrorist attack and in charge of FOX-HOUND. He is demanding that the government hand over Big Boss' remians or he threatens he will launch a nuclear warhead. Liquid, like Solid Snake, is a clone of Big Boss, making the two twins. [MORE INFO]

Revolver Ocelot is Liquid Snake's right-hand man. He is of Russian origin and an expert sharpshooter who adores Western movies. He also has a nasty penchant for torturing people, claiming it to be an "interrogation". Ocelot has met and fought with Big Boss in his younger days. [MORE INFO]

Sniper Wolf is a formidable enemy member of FOX-HOUND. She's an expert with a sniper rifle and, unlike most snipers, works alone. Wolf has suffered a lot in her past and killing has become her way of getting revenge. She adores the company of wolves, hence her codename.

Psycho Mantis does not fight with weapons like the other terrorists. He uses psychokinesis and telepathy to control his enemy and attack. He can also plunge into the minds of anyone he so chooses, and tries to do so with the hostages in order to obtain their secret codes.

Raven is a shaman of immense physical strength. He caries around a gatling fun (normally found on jet fighters) as if it were a handgun. He is able to withstand the harsh cold and belies violence is a sport. It'll take a lot of missiles or explosives to bring this guy down!

Very little is known about this member of FOX-HOUND. He is so named because of the rubbery texture of his skin and his ability to clone people and assume their appearance. He even takes the other person's blood into himself. Snake doesn't have much contact with Octopus during the game.

The Ninja is a mysterious being. He claims to know Snake personally and displays masochistic tendancies, begging Snake to hurt him. He is neither your friend nor your enemy and later Snake recognises him for who he really is.

Big Boss is not in MGS, but is a key character in the history of Metal Gear and is the root of Liquid's demands, who wants the American government to hand over his valuable remainds. Big Boss was the father of both Snake and Liquid and was generally regarded as the perfect warrior. [MORE INFO]
