For all you need to know about the Metal Gear series!

So it's official - Metal Gear Solid will be hitting the big screens!

On my original MGS.net for MSN Groups, I had a page entitled "Movie" although it was nothing more than a fan page full of pictures of ideal actors should the film get made... Now that was years ago when Kojima-san was still adamant that MGS would not be turned into a film. But something has happened since - he's agreed to let it be turned into a film, following in the footsteps of the likes of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Doom and Silent Hill to name only a few.

So what do we know so far?

It's very early days and so the movie is still very much a work in production. However it is now definite and the stuff we know for sure is detailed below. Check back regularly as I'll let you know more details when they become available!

  • MGS series creator and director, Hideo Kojima, has authorised the creation of a MGS movie.
  • The film will be based on the first MGS title which was originally released for the PlayStation in 1998.
  • The film director will be Kurt Wimmer.
  • The predicted release date will be some time in 2012 (yes, I know that sounds ages away).
  • Christian Bale looks set to play the protagonist, Solid Snake, although this is not certain yet.

In the mean time ... ?

Many thanks to "shalashaska" who introduced me to a fan-made, non-profit and entirely free to watch MGS movie entitled "Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy" - I've seen it myself and am very impressed with the quality and effort that has gone into this film. Perhaps it is a little taster of what we can expect when we get ready to see Solid Snake on the big screen for real!
